Embracing Stillness in a Busy Season: How to Stay Grounded During Summer Chaos

Embracing Stillness in a Busy Season: How to Stay Grounded During Summer Chaos
  • PublishedJune 25, 2025

July is here—bursting with sunshine, long days, family gatherings, vacations, and the beautiful chaos of summer. While this season can be vibrant and energizing, it can also feel overwhelming. Calendars fill up, routines dissolve, and the pace of life can leave us feeling more scattered than centered.
But here’s the truth: stillness isn’t about stopping everything around you—it’s about anchoring into yourself, no matter what’s swirling outside.
As a mental health practitioner, hypnotherapist-in-training, and fellow traveler on this human journey, I know how easy it is to get swept up in external movement and forget to tend to the inner terrain. Here’s how we can return to stillness, gently and intentionally—even in the busiest season.

1. Create Micro-Moments of Stillness

You don’t need an hour-long meditation or a silent retreat (though those are lovely!). Stillness can live in a few deep breaths before responding. In the quiet pause between thoughts. In sipping tea without multitasking.

“Peace is not always a place—it’s a practice.”

Try this: Before stepping out of your car, place your hand on your heart. Breathe in for 4, hold for 4, and exhale slowly. Feel yourself return home to your body.

2. Be Mindful of Summer Overcommitment

With so many events and invitations, it’s easy to say yes out of habit or obligation. But honoring your energy is a radical act of self-care.

Check in with yourself:
– Is this a soul-yes or a people-pleasing yes?
– Will this nourish or deplete me?

It’s okay to choose a slower pace, even when the world is in high gear.

3. Use Grounding Tools Intentionally

This is where the work we do shines—through hypnosis, breathwork, meditation, and energy practices. They’re not luxuries. They’re lifelines.

A few grounding go-to’s:
– Barefoot walks in nature
– Lavender essential oil on the wrists
– Body scans or guided hypnosis before bed
– Repetitive affirmations like:
“I am anchored in peace.”
“Stillness lives within me.”

4. Let Nature Be Your Teacher

Summer isn’t just about motion—it’s also about ripening. Blossoming. Being.

Take a cue from the trees—they stand tall, deeply rooted, even as the wind moves through them. Take a cue from the flowers—they bloom by being, not doing.

5. Let Stillness Be Sacred, Not Shameful

If you’re someone who’s always taking care of others, being still can feel… unproductive. But stillness is where we receive, where we reset, where we remember who we are.

Rest is not a reward—it’s a requirement for wholeness.

Final Thoughts

As you move through this season, I invite you to gently embrace the still moments. The pauses. The quiet sips of sunlight between activities. These are not distractions from life. They are life.

You deserve peace—not just in December when things slow down—but in July, right in the middle of it all.

May you find sacred stillness in your breath, in your being, and in your beautiful, busy, vibrant life. 🌿
